Croatian Folklore Ensemble “Nova Nada”

Croatian Folklore Ensemble “Nova Nada” was formed in 1995 to promote Croatian folklore through song and dance. The Detroit Metro area, as well as all of southeastern Michigan, is home to a very large Croatian community.

With Croatia becoming an independent country, the name “Nova Nada”, meaning “new hope”, was chosen to reflect the new renaissance in folklore within the Croatian community.

Based at the American Croatian Club in Warren, Michigan, and under the artistic direction of Steve Talan, now celebrating its 16th season of preserving Croatian folklore, Nova Nada has flourished, performing at functions for all Croatian organizations, including both domestic and international festivals and events. Working closely with folklore groups in Croatia, Nova Nada has replicated costumes and created choreographies from twenty-two regions of Croatia, as well as Croatian settlements outside of the country.

As a member of the CFU Adult Tamburitza Federation, Nova Nada has performed in communities across the United States and Canada. Now celebrating over ten years of preserving Croatian folklore, Nova Nada continues its effort to further understand the unique musical traditions of the Croatian people.
